Paint

Did I mention we bought a home? We got it just before we got married. It is so fun having our OWN home! If I want to put my feet on the table, I CAN. If I want to leave dishes in the sink, I CAN (that of course rarely happens). If I want to paint the walls red, lime green, and pink, I CAN (None of which are colors I'm debating, but I could if I wanted to...). If I want to walk around naked, I CAN (Also, rarely happens, but Trav could keep hoping). If I want to blast the radio and dance and sing in the hall, I CAN. It is also great living in the area we do. We live near a parkway, so its so nice to just go for a walk or jog together. And we live within three minutes of two different freeways. It now takes me roughly 25-30 minutes to get to work, whereas before it would take 35-40 minutes. Believe me, those extra five minutes are NICE!

Anyway, ever since I can remember I have been fantasizing about the day I was able to move into my own home and decorate. I had a binder with a note pad that I would design layouts and I even collected paint swatches. But now that I have options and the capability to do it, I find myself avoiding the task like no other. One: it is going to be a lot of work. Moving furniture, taping the chair rails, priming, picking the colors, ugh. Two: as much as I want to deny it, I have become lazy with my new time off.
Side note, anyone else feel as though they do better under pressure, or stress? I feel like if I was still in school, this house would be done by now. But now that I have no real stressors and lots of free time, I am having a hard time trying to fill it.

Anyway back to THIS blog... Three: I have a serious disorder which involves serious indecisiveness.

But... I am getting somewhere! I think I have finally picked out some colors. So let me know what you think!

So these are the pillows that have inspired me to paint the walls a turquoise, (more blue than green color) in our living room. I love the World Market!

But because the turquoise is so deep, I am just going to paint it that under the chair rails and do a very light gray on top.

Here is the front room

Eventually... we will de-"90"-fy our house and get rid of all the oak wood. (It is EVERYWHERE) For the majority of the house, including the hallways and this room, I am going to paint the walls gray, instead of the boring beige. Perhaps gray will bore me just as much as beige, but I'm going to give it a shot, unless anyone has any ideas!

The master. It really needs an uplifting. It doesn't even look Master worthy.

EEK! I'm so embarrassed by this. This room has a bay window and high ceilings so it has lots of light, but the walls are so boring with the white and beige. BUT I still can't come up with a color to paint them... My only idea has been gray... but I don't want to choose gray. So any ideas are welcome!

And here is an awkward spot in our bedroom. I am not one to display fake plants in cubby areas. But I'm not sure what to do with the space?

Guest bathroom with sky light. I am thinking bright red, or a deep violet. I have black and white decorated in there now, so it needs some color!

The kitchen will be painted a very soft yellow, which I am SO excited about! I think it will make the molding and the chair rails really pop! And once we de-90-fy the cabinets with some dark wood, it will be spectacular!

And here are some photos of our yard from our small deck upstairs. The yard is totally what sold us!

We also have four other bedrooms, which for now, the beige will do just fine! So there is a glimpse into our home. But not a very good one, so come on over! Grab a few paint swatches on the way :) Just kidding...

Well I must admit I am jealous! I would love to be able to paint my apartment walls... without having to paint them back to white after we leave. Anyways, lately I have been loving the combination of yellow and grey (i saw it in a picture) and I also love it when a room has only one wall painted in a color like deep red- it's not too overwhelming and it really accents the room nicely!

Sara, i also work much better under stress. When I sat at home for the first few months of the summer...I did NOTHING. I had all day every day off and I got NOTHING done.
I love your house. Love it. I can not wait to see all of these projects that you have planned put into action. If you need help, you know who to call!

Sara it sounds like it will be so cute! I love bright colors on walls. My bedroom is spring green, my bathroom is orange, and my office is a terracotta color. I have to agree about the free time. I am so lazy with my free time now! I get very little done, and put things off until the last minute. It's so sad. During school I took on projects to avoid homework, now I have nothing to avoid and therefore nothing to motivate productivity. It's so sad.
