Has it really been 5 years?

As I was reading the Facebook Event E-vite I had to ask myself, has it really been five years since our high school graduation? At first I scoffed, thinking “nothing has changed in five years, it’s too soon for a reunion”, but now I realize that is simply not true.

Here are a few examples

Then: I thought I was as mature as I would ever be
Now: I think of most people under the age of 21 as children

Then: I wanted to make sure that whatever I majored in college would not include any chemistry, biology, or other science courses
Now: I am one year away from graduating in Nursing, which required two years of science pre-requisites

Then: I wanted to go anywhere but the University of Utah, I wanted out of Salt Lake
Now: I proudly bleed red (even though there is no other way), and I can’t even get out of West Valley

Then: I would not be able to have a conversation with any of my friends without texting five different people at a time
Now: I am lucky if I get five texts out a week

Then: Friday nights- spent at multiple locations, one of which usually included a Fast Food restaurant parking lot (eesh that is embarrassing)
Now: My best Friday nights- eating take-out while watching Jeopardy all night with Trav

Now here’s the real kicker
Then
: “Aubrey, I will miss many people from high school, but Travis Judd will not be one of them”
Now: I can’t imagine my life without Travis Judd

That being said… Travis has had a few changes as well

Then: “Sara, George W. Bush must be smart if he is up for a second election”
Now: Trav’s favorite t-shirt says “Friends Don’t Let Friends Vote Republican” and listens to NPR every morning

Then: Travis thought cooking only involved packets or a grill; would not try sushi, balsamic vinaigrette, or zucchini
Now: Travis is quite the gourmet chef, refuses to make anything out of a box, and the listed above are a few of his favorites

However, with many changes there have been several consistencies including: I still part my hair on the left side; Trav and I both are still loyal American Eagle shoppers; I still get up to dance every time I hear Usher’s Yeah; my best friends today are a few of my best friends then, and they are still amazing; I’m still very indecisive and have a difficult time getting angry; and Trav still grabs everyone’s attention.

I sure hope everyone else has had an amazing five years filled with wonderful experiences- I have!
